Building in Public: 5 Lessons from Revamping My Website with AI

Before the summer break, I made a public commitment to the Elevate community.

After gathering a year of incredible feedback from my coaching and consulting clients, I committed to completely revamping my digital presence.

I constantly teach my clients that public accountability is one of the strongest drivers of execution. When you announce a goal in public, the world might not check in on your daily progress, but you set an internal standard for yourself that demands completion. Today, I am thrilled to say that promise is delivered. The newly redesigned Elevate website is officially live.

While launching a website is a standard business milestone, the actual process of building it this time around offered a fascinating case study in modern executive strategy, technology integration, and brand authenticity.

Whether you are a startup founder scaling your operations or an executive navigating a career transition, here are five core leadership lessons from my website building journey that apply directly to your next strategic move.

1. Public Accountability Forces Execution

It is easy to let strategic projects quietly fade away when you are the only one holding the deadline. Announcing my website revamp to my community created a hard timeline. You do not need an audience of thousands for this to work. You just need to speak your intentions into existence to a community you respect. Accountability converts passive ideas into active deliverables.

2. Partner with AI, But Do Not Surrender to It

We live in an era where you can generate an entire website with a single prompt. I started my build by partnering with AI, creating a full visual prototype in Antigravity. It was a fantastic way to brainstorm aesthetics and layout.

However, as a founder and strategist, I know my business best. Relying 100% on a generic AI output dilutes your specific value proposition. I chose to use AI as a strategic sounding board rather than a final decision maker.

3. Exercise Judgment: Build for Privacy and Long-Term Viability

When you move at high speed, it is easy to overlook structural and safety risks. While the AI-generated prototype looked great on the surface, my human audit revealed significant gaps. Platforms that offer instant generation often come with hidden costs regarding data privacy, limited SEO ownership, and restricted backend control.

True leadership requires looking past the immediate convenience. I took the visual inspiration from the prototype and brought the final build over to Squarespace. From there, I collaborated with advanced models like Gemini and Claude to refine my messaging, ensuring the final product met strict standards for data security and search optimization.

4. Authenticity Always Outperforms Automation

A digital presence built entirely by an algorithm often reads like one. Your website, much like your professional narrative, must sound like you. For me, that meant integrating my leadership experience, my academic background in Organizational Behavior, and the specific frameworks I use in my coaching practice. Staying true to your brand requires a level of human refinement that AI simply cannot replicate yet.

5. Client Feedback is Your Greatest Asset

This entire project did not start in a vacuum. It was the direct result of listening to what my clients, community members, and partners were actively asking for over the past year. The best strategic pivots are never based on guesswork. They are built on a foundation of active listening and market feedback.
